Social Conventions
It is polite to say good day or good evening in stores and shaking hands is a very common form of greeting, as is kissing on both cheeks. While casual wear is acceptable around the country, some places (clubs, restaurants etc) require more formal attire.
Language
French is the official language with varying dialects. Some in the southwest speak Basque, while Breton is spoken in Brittany.
Religion
Over 80% of the population of France is Catholic, with Protestant, Muslim and Jewish minorities.
